Needlefelted Alpaca Cria

All my life I’ve been creating things, painting, rock carving, sculpting, scratch board, you name it. In my professional life i created software and computer applications, but no matter what I did I always came back to art for solace. During a period where I had a couple alpaca, and already can’t crochet or knit, I tried my hand at making felt. There a new passion was born.
I am semi-retired now; I love making, and getting better at making both wet felt and needle felt pieces. I hope you enjoy, and if you would like something made just for you, or as a gift, I would be happy to help you.

Please use the contact form and I will get right back to you.

Thanks!

WHAT IS FELT?

Felt is a textile material that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibers together. Felt can be made of natural fibers such as wool or animal fur, or from synthetic fibers. Most Felting is one of the oldest arts, dating back to the first century AD in Mongolia. Siberian tombs (7th to 2nd century BC) show the broad uses of felt in that culture, including clothing, jewelry, wall hangings, and elaborate horse blankets.

NEEDLEFELT

Needle felting is a method of creating felted objects without using water. The special needles used to make 3D sculpture, jewelry, adornments and 2D art have notches along the shaft of the needle that catch fibers and tangle them with other fibers to produce felt. These notches are sometimes erroneously called “barbs”, The needles used for felting are generally quite thin, and sometimes fitted in holders that allow the user to utilize 2 or more needles at one time to sculpt wool objects and shapes.
